The world of wine is not only a pleasure for gourmets but also a promising market for investors. Wine indices help navigate it – these are special indicators that reflect price dynamics, trading volumes, and general market trends. They are aggregated indicators that track prices for a specific group of wines (usually the most prestigious and collectible examples) and, accordingly, allow you to identify trends, assess investment attractiveness, and compare the return on investment in wines from different regions of the world or from different producers.

The most well-known wine indices are:

•   Liv-ex (London International Vintners Exchange): The most authoritative platform for wine trading and the largest provider of wine indices. It includes various indices, such as Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 (tracks prices for the 100 most sought-after wines), Liv-ex 1000 (a broader index including 1000 wines), and others.

•   Wine-Searcher: A popular site that tracks wine prices worldwide and provides various indices and ratings.

More recently, Russia has also introduced its own wine indices, launched by RBC in collaboration with the Moscow Exchange and X5 Group.

The family of wine indices includes three indicators: RBCRED – RBC Red Wine Index, RBCWHITE – RBC White Wine Index, and RBCSPARK – RBC Sparkling Wine Index. They reflect how the price in rubles per 0.75 liters of each of the three types of beverage has changed.

The wine indices are calculated in rubles, updated weekly on Wednesdays, and published on the websites of the Moscow Exchange and "RBC Wine."
