While wine etiquette often demands strictness, true wine culture is also about the ability to adapt a drink to the moment. Today, we want to highlight a German phenomenon known as Schorle.

This isn't merely "diluted wine"; it is an entire philosophy of freshness born in Germany. A classic Weinschorle is the perfect harmony of dry wine and sparkling mineral water.

Why does it work?

  • Carbonated Aeration: The CO2 "lifts" the wine’s aromatics to the surface, making them more volatile and vibrant.
  • Purity of Palate: The water makes the wine’s structure drier and crisper, stripping away any heaviness while accentuating its natural acidity.
  • Moderation: It is the ideal format for a hot day or a long lunch — allowing you to stay light, refreshed, and energized.

Use a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio in favor of the wine. Opt for high-acid, fresh varietals (such as Riesling or Silvaner) and use ice-cold, highly carbonated mineral water.
