An exclusive masterclass dedicated to the intricacies of wine etiquette was recently held at the Mozart Wine House Sommelier Academy, supported by the Eastern European Association of Sommeliers and Experts. Our aim was not merely to convey rules, but to foster a deep understanding of the aesthetics and culture of wine consumption – an integral part of a sommelier's professionalism and a connoisseur's elegance.

The masterclass began with an immersion into the aesthetics of the wine world. Participants explored how the visual perception of wine influences its evaluation: from selecting the correct glass to highlight the wine's color and clarity, to the perfect presentation that creates an atmosphere of solemnity and anticipation. The nuances of table setting, the importance of lighting, and the overall harmony of the table were discussed, all of which collectively form a complete tasting experience. Emphasis was placed on the idea that wine is not merely a beverage but a part of culture, where every gesture and detail holds significance.

The core of the masterclass was dedicated to wine etiquette itself – a set of rules that allow one to feel confident and comfortable in any wine-related setting. Kristina D. Korenitsina, Chief Sommelier of the Mozart Wine House group of companies, elaborated on aspects such as:

•  The correct serving temperature for different wine types.
•  The art of opening a bottle and decanting.
•  Techniques for presenting and serving wine to a guest.
•  Tasting fundamentals: how to properly hold a glass, aerate wine, and assess its aroma and taste.
•  Table manners when selecting wine, interacting with a sommelier, and offering toasts.

Practical demonstrations and interactive sessions enabled each participant to practice the acquired knowledge, ask questions, and receive personalized advice. Special attention was given to situations that might arise in a restaurant or at a social event, and how to resolve them elegantly.

The masterclass proved to be a valuable source of new knowledge for both novice and experienced wine enthusiasts. Participants not only refreshed and systematized their understanding of wine etiquette but also gained practical tips that will allow them to navigate the wine world with greater confidence.
