Château Mouton Rothschild Unveils 2023 Label by Portuguese Artist Joana Vasconcelos: A Continuation of a Grand Tradition!
Bordeaux, France. The legendary Château Mouton Rothschild has once again captured the attention of the wine and art worlds, presenting a unique label for its 2023 vintage. The design was created by the renowned Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, continuing a celebrated tradition that began in 1924.
It was in 1924 that Baron Philippe de Rothschild radically transformed the approach to wine bottle design by commissioning artist Jean Carlu for an original label. This bold move inaugurated one of the most astonishing collections of art, gracing the labels of great wines and generating immense interest among connoisseurs worldwide.
For the 2023 harvest, the choice fell upon Joana Vasconcelos, whose artistic vision perfectly resonated with the spirit of the Château. For the artist, ‘the idea of perfection’ is embodied in a vine, encircled by the elements: earth, water, sun, and night. These images became the central source of inspiration for her work.
Vasconcelos’ label, titled «Paraíso» (meaning 'Paradise' in Portuguese), features a series of vibrant graphic elements. These include blue stars, golden sunrays, the distinctive pebbled soil of the Pauillac region, and a lush purple grape bunch, all rendered in jubilant swirls. The artist emphasizes the 'connection between nature and man,' symbolized by wine, and conveys this idea through a purple triangle, representing the intentions and 'hands' involved in crafting this noble beverage.
The new Château Mouton Rothschild 2023 label is more than just an adornment; it is yet another testament to the profound link between art and winemaking, where each vintage becomes a unique canvas for global talents.
