World wine production goes down

During the past year production wine in the world decreased to 6% from 266,7 million dekaliters in 2011 till 250,9 million dekaliters in 2012 and came to the lowest result from 1975 at least, when the statistics started. The reason is in low harvest in France, Spain, Argentina and some other countries, what is fixed in the report of the International Organization of Vine (OIV), published by the Bloomberg agency. France, Spain, Italy and Argentina suffered last year from bad weather conditions like hail and dry. Production of wine in France, normally the leader, fall to 17% in 2012 till 42,2 million hectoliters, the second one, Italy, diminished production to 6,3% till 40,1 million hectoliters, and Spain to 11% till 29,7 million hectoliters. The biggest fall is in Argentina – to 24% till 11,8 million hectoliters. 2012 showed a worldwide increase of wine consumption till 245,2 million hectoliters from 243,8 in 2011. 28-30 million hectoliters of wine was also used to produce strong drinks, vermouth and vinegar, reports OIV. According to the words of general director of the biggest wine cooperative of France Groupe Val d'Orbieu Bertrand Girard, the world will face a deficit of wine at least of 10 million hectoliters (about 1.3 billion bottles). A French agency FranceAgriMer states that wholesale prices to white wine in France grew up to 45% starting from August, 2012, to red wine – to 17% because of production decrease and expectation of deficit of offer. International Organization of Vine exists from 1924 and includes 50 countries, known by their wine traditions. Source - www.finmarket.ru
