Russian Alcohol Regulation Department will inspect Internet-shops

The list of forbidden sites can be completed by internet-shops selling counterfeit alcohol. A list of such shops is already prepared by the functionaries of the Russian Alcohol Regulation Department. Currently they prepare necessary amendments to the actual law to let the Russian Alcohol Regulation Department to close such sites through the help of Russian Commercial Control Department. Internet is rich of such sites, offering imported premium alcohol in jerry cans for a price several times lower than in a shop. The sites inform the customers that elite alcohol is imported in Russian in tanks and bottled inside the country, what is not true. Vadim Drobiz, the director of the analytical agency of the sector ZIFFRA sates that internet-shops selling illegal alcohol should be closed and the owners punished according to the law regulations. “The question of counterfeit of premium alcohol is very serious. The situation is well illustrated by a whiskey example: last year the difference of volumes of sales of this drink and the volume of import was 25-30%. It means that there are about 30% of counterfeit whiskey sold in the Russian market,” - says Mr. Drobiz. He remarked as well that in 2012 the volume of importation of elite alcohol in Russia dropped off from 25-30% till 10-12% due to increase of production of counterfeit drinks. The ban of distance sales of alcohol exists in the Russian Federation from 2007. During the last 5 years different public organization tried to cancel this interdiction, but the State didn't agree. The supporters of the ban insist that the principal argument for its existance is impossibility to define the age of a customer and to control the prohibition of night sales of alcohol.
