Crimea needs a 60% re-cultivation of vineyards

Crimea needs a 60% re-cultivation of vineyards

According to the words of Deputy Director of the Crimea Institute “Magarach” Vyacheslav Ivanchenko, the analysis of the age of Crimea vineyards showed a sad situation. He says that young vineyards not older than 5 years make 18%, vineyards older than 25 years make 46%, and 14 thousands of hectares of vineyards are not cultivated and don't give any harvest at all. Mr. Ivanchenko remarks that by 2013 the gross harvest in Crimea was 90-110 thousand tones with average harvest capacity 52 centner of hectares. Vyacheslav Ivashenko considers this quantity as extremely small. The statistics of the Institute show that the harvest of the vineyards should be 270-300 thousand tones of grapes to satisfy the needs of Ukraine and Crimea in wine and table grapes. Currently the Institute together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Alimentary of Crimea designed a program of development of vine-growing and wine-making in Crimea till 2025. The program includes a step-by-step reconstruction of vineyards according to the demand of raw materials. The program previews re-cultivation of 60% vineyards. Source – www.alconews.ru
