Bordeaux doesn't follow Latour

Sorting of Château Latour from regular campaign en-primeur last year didn't became an example for other chateaux of the region. Paul Pontallier managing director of another premier Grand Cru of Bordeaux Margaux assured that the castle wouldn't follow the example of Latour as “it would be a pity to loose the en-primeur excitement”. M. Pontallier supposed that the decision of Latour didn't change too much the life of the household. “Latour always used this policy [to wait for a later release]”, — remarked the wine-maker. Melanie Tesseron, co-owner of Château Pontet Canet called en-primeur a “great system”: “The wine is still not ready, but it is sold in two and half hours”. Ms. Tesseron appreciated positively the trading system of Bordeaux: “Every negociant has his own specialization; his work takes a huge amount of time. We would never do it in 2.5 hours ourselves. The system helps us to focus on wine-making, not sales”. Even though the vintages 2009 and 2010 were influenced by inflation, M. Pontallier insisted that en-primeurs permitted customers to “buy wine for a very profitable price”. Besides, the reaction to the release of Latour 1995 from the caves for a higher price showed that the proposal was taken with doubt. Source – www.vinum.ru
