Wine future of Thailand

On the 14th of February 2013 East European Sommeliers and Experts Association in the Wine Bar Mozart Wine House organized a meeting with Thai wines. Below, please, see the expert evaluation.

Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Village Cellar
Assemblage of classical French varieties with a rather intensive aroma. Unfortunately faults are evident. The color has some pomegranate and brick tones, the wine doesn't shine. The aroma is rich of vegetable notes, dried fruits and light tones of grilled meat. The taste is not bad with medium tannins and slight berry acidity. Rate: 76 points.

Shiraz 2011 Monsoon Valley
The wine made a good impression with its ruby-violet color and healthy shining. Aroma reflects completely the character of Shiraz – spices, plumps, black berries, a light chocolate note. But the taste disappoints - water-like, high resident sugar and lack of tannins. Rate: 73 points

Muscat 2011 Monsoon Valley
Muscat Late harvest was the best in terms of balance of the three Thai wines. Complex aroma with fruity domination: white peach, melon, lychee, candied fruit, ginger cookies. Taste creamy, with light citrus notes and oriental spices. Acidity is not too high, but totally the wine is harmonic. Rate: 81 points.

The summary is that the Thai wine is exotic up to the moment due to climate, lack of experience of wine-making. However, there is a good perspective for Asian wine, which will a new discovery for wine lovers.
