Tasting of Bordeaux wines

A regular tasting have had place in the Wine Bar Mozart Wine House this Wednesday. This event became a real test both for the tasters and for the samples. The point is that regional wines of Bordeaux are not so long-living as their famous relatives from Cru Classe. Nevertheless the guests could distinguish the logic of changes happened during their long life. The wines were decanted 30 minutes before serving, unfortunately the wight sample Chateau Poumey, 1997 from Pessac-Leognan was damaged (cork) and was eliminated from the tasting.

Chateau Hostens-Picant, 1999 Sainte-Foy Bordeaux surprised by its pale ruby color with light red-brick circle. The aroma was a balanced and mild combination of notes of violet, chocolate and intensive tone of cherry jam. The taste is mild with great and round tannins and nice acidity. The tasters agreed that the wine had lack of body, in whole the sample was very interesting.
Average rate: 80/100.

Chateau Fongiras, 1998 Medoc is showed itself very heavy. Intensive ruby color with tint of brick and pomegranate. The aroma was full of pepper notes familiar to Cabernet Sauvignon, that tobacco came with leather, coffee, dark chocolate and berry jam. Tannins were rather significant balanced by good acidity and berry-like aftertaste. Experts were not unanimous, but the sample was well appreciated.
Average rate: 84/100.
